Some people call it discipline. I prefer guidance. No child will be hit, spanked, belittled, or otherwise intimidated. No corporal punishment will be used. Children will be treated with courtesy, respect, and patience. Guidance will be according to age and understanding level. For example, younger children, babies and toddlers, will be redirected to another activity. Older children will be given ‘Quiet Time’ on the couch depending on the severity of the offense (1 minute per year of age, never to be more than 5 minutes and never unsupervised). If the behaviour becomes a persistent problem, I will address it with you and we will try to resolve it together. AT NO TIME WILL A CHILD BE SUBJECTED TO PHYSICAL PUNISHMENT, SHAMING, FRIGHTENING OR HUMILIATING METHODS. ANY TYPE OF VERBAL ABUSE, THREATS, DEROGATORY REMARKS, OR DEPRIVATION OF FOOD WILL NOT BE USED. NO CHILD WILL EVER BE PUNISHED FOR TOILET ACCIDENTS.
Philosophy On Teaching
At Cradles-2-Crayons Family Daycare, I offer a Preschool program, Kidcrafters, that teaches the children the same basic learning skills that the Centers provide. The children love doing the activities that are planned for them throughout the week. These activities are age appropriate and children learn at their own pace. For the younger set, we have tummy time and lots of opportunities through play to develop motor skills and mental skills as they grow.

I also work on a casual on-call basis for both the catholic and public school boards for students needing extra support. I believe that every child has the right to equal education, including students with special needs.
I have also completed a 2 year part time program at Conestoga College to receive my Educational Assistant Certificate with an Honour List Award. I have also received my certificate in the Family Child Care Training Program (Canadian Child Care Federation).
