Philosophy On Discipline
Acceptable behavior is encouraged by giving positive verbal rewards. This reinforces a child's good feeling about his[Hidden]her behavior and serves as an example to the children to act in such a way as to receive this praise. Asking a child to stop and think about their behavior enables the child to work at self control.
Depending on the situation, one warning is usually given and the child reminded of acceptable behavior. The next step would be a timeout. This timeout is not a punishment, but rather a time when the child may calm down, remember what behavior is acceptable, and decide when they are ready to rejoin the group with appropriate behavior.
Corporal punishment is not considered to be an accepted method of dealing with young child's behavior. Children will not be hit, slapped, or spanked in any manner while attending ABJ Learn-N-Play Family Child Care.
Philosophy On Teaching
Curriculum is not just what story is read, what art project is done, or what product is made; a large part of curriculum is playtime. I feel your child will benefit greatly from structured and non-structured activities. Throughout the day, the children play individually and together. Toys and equipment are plentiful, age-appropriate. Children can feel comfortable growing and learning at their own pace while I foster self-esteem, positive attitudes, and pro-social behavior. By embracing each child’s development from a very young age, I can assist in building a strong foundation for growth, willingness and an enjoyment of learning.
Philosophy On Toilet-Training
If you or I feel that your child is ready to begin potty training, we will discuss the ways we can work together. Training your child takes a lot of effort on your part and on mine, so we need to wait until your child is really ready.
Language skills, the ability to say “potty” or some other term which indicates that your child needs to use the bathroom; staying dry during nap time. Your child’s readiness is something we can discuss because consistency between our homes will be very important. This is a “Special Time” for your child, a sign that he[Hidden]she is growing up. It is not a good idea to dress your child in overalls, pants with difficult fastener, Etc.
