Philosophy provided by Free To Be M...
Philosophy On DisciplineDiscipline (Positive behavior Supports) Active and happy children are the signs of a good childcare. The following methods are utilized. Rules are first explained with plenty of positive reminders. Acceptable behavior is encouraged by giving positive verbal rewards. This reinforces a child’s good feeling about his[Hidden]her behavior and serves as an example to the children to act in such a way as to receive this praise. Asking a child to stop and think about their behavior enables the child to work at self control Infants : will be redirected 12 months to 3 yrs : redirection of the child’s behavior, explain the problem or the inappropriate actions of the child and redirect the child. Remove them from the situation with younger children a playpen may be used. 3 yrs and up: ### with a warning[Hidden]redirect[Hidden]timeout, depending on the age and severity of incident. Timeout is not a punishment, but rather a time when the child may calm down, remember what behavior is acceptable, Timeout consisting of 1 min per year no more then 5 minutes. When time out is up, I will talk to the child and explain why that behavior was inappropriate. If timeout are not effective, some sort of consequence will be imposed. This may range from favorite toy being taken away for a period of time, to being excluded from a favorite activity. If you are using a certain method at home, please inform me so that we can be consistent. In any instance where the child’s behavior is continually upsetting and if of concern to me. I will need to discuss it with you. So that we may jointly decide on a course of action that if followed at home and in my care. If the problem cannot be resolved, arrangements may need to be made for the child to receive care elsewhere. A child will never be disciplined for accidents.
Philosophy On TeachingI believe that play is the best means of learning in young children. While playing with blocks children are learning pre math skills. When looking and listening to stories children are learning pre reading and speech skills. Puppets and playing house teach children socialization skills. Playing in dirt, flower beds or the sand teaches children pre science skills. So when you see your child playing, don’t look at it as playing instead look at what they are learning while they are playing. I do have scheduled activities , such as circle time and learning times.
Philosophy On Toilet-TrainingToilet Training At 2 years of age I like to start children on potty training. I have found that cloth training pants along with rubber pants work best. Children are uncomfortable being wet and dirty in cloth training pants so they are more willing to potty train. I have found that pull ups and disposable diapers hinder a child in potty training because they are kept to dry by the lining. Consistency between home and here is crucial for their success.
